60 Second CPS Test

A full minute. This is the length the world record is actually measured over.

The only length the world record is comparable to

The click speed record you see quoted everywhere — around sixteen clicks per second — is a sixty-second sustained average. Almost nobody says so, which is why people compare their one-second burst against it and conclude they are close. They are not: those are different quantities that happen to share a unit.

A minute is the length that makes the comparison honest. Whatever you score here is directly comparable to the figure everyone quotes, and for most people it is a humbling number — considerably lower than their five-second rate, and further still below their one-second peak.

What happens to your hand over a minute

The collapse is not gradual. Most runs hold a decent rate for the first ten or fifteen seconds, fall off sharply somewhere in the twenties, and then settle into a slower rhythm that lasts to the end. The final score is mostly decided by where that settled rhythm lands, not by how fast you opened.

That is why sprinting the start is actively counterproductive here in a way it is not over five seconds. Forcing the first ten seconds brings the collapse forward and lowers the plateau you spend the remaining fifty seconds on.

How to actually score well over a minute

Endurance is a different skill, and it trains differently

Burst speed responds to technique. Endurance responds to how relaxed you can stay while clicking, which is a slower thing to learn and mostly comes from doing longer runs at a comfortable pace rather than short runs at your limit.

If you care about the number this test produces, practise at a rate you can hold rather than one you are chasing. It feels like going backwards for a week or two and it is the only thing that moves a sixty-second score.

Questions about this test

What is the click speed world record?

The figure quoted everywhere is around sixteen clicks per second, and it is a SIXTY-SECOND sustained average — which almost nobody mentions. That omission is why people compare their one-second burst against it and conclude they are close. This is the only length on which that comparison means anything.

Why is my 1 minute CPS so much lower than my normal score?

Because a minute is long enough for your hand to give out and then keep going. Most runs hold a good rate for ten or fifteen seconds, fall off sharply somewhere in the twenties, and then settle into a slower rhythm that lasts to the end. The final score is mostly decided by where that plateau lands.

How do I improve a 60 second score?

Practise at a rate you can hold rather than one you are chasing. Burst speed responds to technique; endurance responds to how relaxed you can stay while clicking, which is slower to learn and only comes from longer runs at a comfortable pace.

Should I sprint the start of a minute-long run?

No — and it is actively counterproductive here in a way it is not over five seconds. Forcing the first ten seconds brings the collapse forward and lowers the plateau you then spend the remaining fifty seconds on.
